In 1965, at the advanced age of 70 years, Srila Prabhupada traveled from India to USA. He carried little more than his faith in the Holy Names of Krsna and the 1st Canto of Srimad Bhagavatam. The following 12 years, Srila Prabhupada translated and commented on over 50 volumes of Vedic literature. The authority to write, teach, and train students in the science of God was given to him by his guru Bhaktisiddanta Sarasvati Goswami Maharaja (1874-1937), coming in the disciplic succession from Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu (1486-1534), an incarnation of Lord Krsna. Srila Prabhupada also founded the International Society for Krishna Consciousness.

A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda is a self-realized, pure devotee of Lord Kṛṣṇa. While physically present among us he shared the essence of Vedic knowledge liberally and without prejudice. His only desire was to fulfill his spiritual master's desire – to introduce the process of Kṛṣṇa consciousness to the world.

"There are many hospitals to cure the bodily diseases, but there is no hospital to cure the disease of the soul. So this Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is to cure the disease of the soul. Disease of the soul. Every soul, every person, is mistaken to accept this body as his self or the mind as his self. This is the difference. Yasyātma-buddhiḥ kuṇape tri-dhātuke, sa eva go-kharaḥ (SB 10.84.13). Anyone who is accepting this body as self, he's either an ass or a cow. Misconception. So people are not interested."
